The Broncos' Matt Russell Gets 7 Months in DUI Case

Matt Russell, the Director of Player Personnel for the Denver Broncos, just got a whopping 7 month sentence in connection with a recent DUI accident.

According to reports, Russell crashed into a police officer’s SUV and injured the officer.  He pled guilty to careless driving, possessing an open container of alcohol, and DUI driving. In addition to the 7 month prison sentence, Russell will also face two years of probation.

The Broncos suspended him from his job, and he no doubt faces other problems caused by the DUI, including spikes in insurance premiums, which can add up to thousands of dollars over the years. Russell had been very apologetic about the crash, but despite his desire to “make things right” with the officer he hurt, he still faces an uphill battle.

Of course, DWI’s causing injury in North Carolina can lead to Felony charges. Other factors that can enhance the DWI sentence include:

Whether you fled the scene or not (i.e. committed a hit and run);
The age of the passengers in your car
Your Blood Alcohol Concentration
Whether you had a prior history of DUI or other criminal activity.
