Failure to Appear

Missing Your Court Date – Failure to Appear (FTA)

In North Carolina, a missed court date can result in the court issuing a Failure to Appear (FTA). The North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) will revoke your driver’s license for an FTA in traffic court. It is illegal for anyone to drive in North Carolina with a revoked license. If law enforcement pulls you over while your license is revoked, you may be issued a ticket for DWLR. It is important to handle any FTA’s, even if your license is from another state. Outstanding charges in any state may result in you being unable to renew your driver’s license.

Missing your court date for a Misdemeanor or Felony offense can result in an Order for Arrest (OFA) or a bench warrant. As a result, you can be arrested and required to post bail or remain in jail until your court date. If you have an OFA, it is important to contact a criminal defense attorney immediately to avoid any additional charges.
